[1]The IP Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation is sponsoring its first Hot Topics program to be held on Friday June 10 in DC. The program brochure is here [2].

The program will cover the bases: copyrights, trademarks and patents. The copyright program will focus on the unresolved issues arising from the 4-4 split in Costco v. Omega (that I have written about below [3]) as well as the two 9th Circuit cases seemingly going in opposite directions re the reach of the 1st sale doctrine: Vernor and Augusto. One of the panelists is Naomi Jane Gray of Harvey Siskind in San Francisco, a fine lawyer and the author of the copyright blog Shades of Gray. Her very useful post on Vernor is here. [4] Naomi [5]also serves with Dan Quick [6]and I as co-chair on the Copyright Subcommittee of the IP Litigation Committee.

The trademark program, moderated by Mary Margaret O’Donnell [7] of  Rader, Fishman & Grauer in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, will focus on damage remedies and other options available in trademark litigation.  The patent program, moderated by Michael Padden [8] of Levenfeld Pearlstein in Chicago, will deal with the many new developments from the Supreme Court. The luncheon speaker is Chief Judge Randall Rader from the Federal Circuit.

The program is very reasonably priced and well balanced;  for Litigation Section the price is $125.00 and for ABA members and non-members the cost goes up only to $180. Suggest you check it out.
